Breastfeeding and breastmilk have so many benefits for both mom and baby. However, it is a learned skill that takes time to figure out with your new baby. Moms who take a breastfeeding class while pregnant have a higher chance of success with latching and continuing on their breastfeeding journey. Boston Baby Nurse & Nanny is proud to announce we now have a detailed online lactation class that you can take at your own pace. It is taught by Ashley Sousa, RN, IBCLC and Carole K. Arsenault RN. Both Carole and Ashley are nurses who specialize in labor and delivery with years of experience supporting parents after birth.

What’s Included in the Breastfeeding Class?

Our online breastfeeding class has multiple types of instructional methods to fit all learning styles: videos, PowerPoints, and articles.

  • Parents will learn how to latch baby on and different nursing positions.
  • You will know what to expect on the days following birth and how to best support yourself and baby through your breastfeeding journey.
  • You’ll know how to navigate a blocked duct and other complications.
  • Moms will learn about milk itself, pumping, hand expression, & more!
  • See the break down of each unit in our online class, Breastfeeding Support for New & Expecting Moms.

Why Should I Take a Lactation Class?

Educating yourself is the first step in the right direction to breastfeeding success. Research shows that educating yourself about the breastfeeding journey can lead to higher rates of breastfeeding initiation, longer breastfeeding duration, and overall higher rates of exclusive breastfeeding. One of the biggest misconceptions about breastfeeding is that because it is natural, it will be easy. While you have free time before baby arrives, grab a seat, put your feet up, and take our online breastfeeding class to enter motherhood prepared.

The Importance of Breastfeeding

  • Breastmilk provides shared antibodies and immunities from mom. It can prevent baby from catching various colds, viruses, and infections.
  • Breastfeeding has been also shown to prevent various allergies, asthma, diabetes, SIDs, obesity, certain childhood cancers, and more!
  • Breastfeeding has health benefits for the mother too! It can reduce the mother’s risk of breast and ovarian cancer, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, and high blood pressure.
  • Nursing your baby increases bonding as well as decreases rates of postpartum anxiety and depression.
  • Breastmilk changes its composition based on baby’s needs and their age, making it ideal for their growth and development.

In addition to an online breastfeeding class, Boston Baby Nurse & Nanny offers in-person and virtual lactation support. We can assist you while pregnant, after birth, and further down the road when returning to work, or even when trying to wean off.
