The day has come! You have been matched with your Boston Baby Nurse & Nanny Newborn Care Expert! Your due date is approaching, and you may be anxious to get to know the individual that will be supporting your family through this exciting time. You may have a few questions about the process of meeting your Newborn Care Expert (NCE). Here I will ease any concerns and address how you will communicate with your NCE throughout your overnight newborn care support.

Being Introduced to Your NCE

When the Boston Baby Nurse team has matched you with your Newborn Care Expert you will receive a detailed bio, and a photo of her. Your Newborn Care Expert will reach out to you to schedule a video or phone call at a time that is most convenient for you. During that call you can feel free to get to know your Newborn Care Expert. You may have a list of questions to ask them, you might bring them up to speed on how your pregnancy is going, and what you are most looking forward to receiving from postpartum support. Your Newborn Care Expert is excited to support your family!

The First Night of Support

Your Overnight Newborn Care Expert will arrive at your home at their scheduled time. There are several topics that would be helpful to discuss before you head off to rest. You can do this while giving a quick tour.

  • Where will baby sleep?
  • Where are baby’s essentials located (swaddles, diapers…)?
  • Is baby bottle-feeding, breastfeeding, are you pumping?
  • Would you like bottles prepped for the next day?
  • Where can your Newborn Care Expert wash bottles and pump parts?
  • Do you have any specific laundry instructions?
  • If you are breastfeeding, would you like your baby to be brought to you for feeding or would you like to feed them in the nursey or living room?
  • What is the plan for the transition in the morning when your expert is heading out?

Communication Through Logs

Your Newborn Care Expert will bring a Boston Baby Nurse Binder to your house on their first shift. This binder is yours to keep. They will log your baby’s feedings, diaper changes, sleep/ awake time, and any other important details that may happen throughout their shift. Many parents find this helpful to look at the next morning. Your overnight Newborn Care Expert may write notes about sleep patterns they’ve observed or what worked well to soothe your infant back to sleep. Feel free to continue using these logs after your support has ended, or keep it as a memory book.

Providing Newborn Care Guidance

Boston Baby Nurse Newborn Care Experts are highly trained, experienced, and skilled in newborn care. They are up to date on the latest information and protocols according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. Should you have questions or concerns about anything newborn care related at any time, your Newborn Care Expert will be there to guide you and give you non-medical advice and tips. You can feel free to ask your Newborn Care Expert if there are any baby products they recommend, tips on healing after birth, breastfeeding guidance, sleep conditioning, and much more. You can converse with your overnight Newborn Care Expert at any time during their shift or write questions in the shared binder.
