If you are looking for fun activities to do with your children, mason jars are your friend! There are countless ways to use these little containers and they can provide hours of hands on activity time for your kids. Here are some of my favorite mason jar craft ideas.

Glitter Dipped Jars

Materials Needed: mason jar, glitter, painters tape, Mod Podge, clear liquid glue, paint brush

Steps:

  1. Wrap the painters tape around the mason jar one time about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom of the jar.
  2. Paint the bottom half of the jar, below the painters tape, with the clear glue.
  3. Dip or sprinkle glitter over the glue so that it is completely covered.
  4. Allow the glue to dry.
  5. Paint over the glitter area with the Mod Podge to seal it on and let it dry!

Mason Jar Succulent Planters

This is a great gift for Mom or a friend on Valentine’s Day!

Materials Needed: mason jar, soil, succulent, pebbles, crystals/sea glass/stones, water

Steps:

  1. Decorate your jar anyway you like (optional)
  2. Pour about 1 inch of small pebbles into the bottom of the jar.
  3. Pour your crystals/sea glass/stones on top of the pebbles (approximately 2 inches).
  4. Add soil to the jar, leaving enough room at the top for the succulent plant to fit.
  5. Plant your succulent in the soil so that at least the top half of the plant is poking out of the top of the jar.
  6. Water your plant lightly and make sure it has sun! This is a great first chore for a child to take care of their plant!

Glow in the Dark Night Light

Materials Needed: mason jar with a lid, glow in the dark paint, paint brush, stencils if you want, hot glue, and a small figurine (optional)

Steps:

  1. Decorate your jar and figurine with the glow paint any way you like.
  2. Allow the paint to dry.
  3. Glue the figurine inside, on the bottom.
  4. Screw the lid on.
  5. Put in on a windowsill in your child’s room to get lots of sunlight during the day. You won’t believe how fast your kids will want to go to bed so they can see it glow!

Decoupage Luminaries

Materials Needed: mason jar, multi-colored tissue paper, water, paper towel, Mod Podge, foam brush, small battery powered tea light

Steps:

  1. Use the paper towel to lightly wet the outside of the jar.
  2. Take small pieces of various colored tissue paper and stick them to the wet jar, covering the entire outside.
  3. Use the foam brush to paint over the tissue paper with Mod Podge and allow it to dry.
  4. Place the battery powered tea light inside the jar and watch it light up with beautiful colors (pictured at the top)!

These are just a few of the great mason jar craft ideas you can try with your kids. Always be cautious when using anything made of glass with young children. Parent supervision and assistance will be required. To learn how to make a snow globe mason jar, click here!
