Starting in September, 2021 a Postpartum Support Group will be offered virtually, on Wednesdays at 4:30.  Licensed clinical social worker, Carissa McGuiness, will lead the postpartum support group. As a mother of two under two, she knows how isolating and overwhelming motherhood can be. Her goal of the postpartum support group is to offer Moms the support and guidance she never had, but absolutely needed as a new Mom. What is postpartum depression you ask? In short, it is a very common depression occurring during or after pregnancy that can result in irritability, insomnia, loss of appetite, and difficulty bonding with your baby.

Meet Carissa McGuiness

A bit about Carissa, she is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in Massachusetts and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Florida. She has extensive experience working with severe mental health, substance dependence, and child welfare. After becoming a mom, she shifted focus to finding ways to support moms through “the fourth trimester” and motherhood journey. She has two sons, a 20 month old and 4 month old. She openly struggled through PPD and PPA during her fourth month postpartum after having her first son. The lack of support where she lived in Florida brought her family to Massachusetts! She now works at Inspiring Insight, a group therapy practice in Plainville, MA.
