Elmers Glue CraftMaterials You’ll Need:

  • 3 Tbsp of washable school glue
  • 2 drops of dish soap
  • 8 drops Food coloring or liquid watercolor
  • Plastic page protectors or wax paper
  • Paintbrush
  • Cookie Cutters (optional)

DIY Window Cling Instructions:

  1. DIY Window Cling with Elmers GluePrepare Your Workspace: Lay down some newspaper or an old tablecloth to protect your surface. Gather all your materials so you’re ready to craft.
  2. Mix the Window Cling Solution: In a small bowl, combine the washable school glue with the dish soap. Stir until well mixed. Add 8 drops of orange food coloring and stir again. Add more color until you achieve your desired pumpkin color.
  3. Create the Pumpkin Shapes: Place a plastic page protector or a piece of wax paper on your work surface. Using a paintbrush, paint the pumpkin shapes onto the plastic or wax paper. You can make simple round pumpkins or get creative with different shapes and sizes. To help young children make the shape hold a cookie cutter firmly down on the plastic page protector so that he can paint inside of it.
  4. Add the Details: If you’d like to add stems or faces to your pumpkins, mix up some green and black window cling solution using the same method (washable glue, dish soap, and food coloring). Use the paintbrush to carefully paint stems and spooky faces on the side. You will construct your jack-o-lanterns on the window once they are dry. For younger kids it may be helpful to show them different jack-o-lantern faces so they understand the eyes can be the shape of triangles and the mouths are stilly too.
  5. Let Them Dry: Allow the window clings to dry completely overnight, it may take up to 24 hours depending on the thickness of the paint.
  6. Peel and Stick: Once the stickers are fully dry, gently peel them off the plastic or wax paper. They should come off easily and be slightly stretchy.
  7. Decorate Your Windows: Now the fun part— stick the eyes, nose, and mouth on the pumpkin and then push the whole jack-o-lantern creation on your windows! These DIY window clings are easy to remove and reposition, so you can arrange them however you like.

Tips for Success:

  • Experiment with Colors: Try mixing different shades of orange or adding a bit of red or yellow for a unique look.
  • Make More with Less: We had a lot left over of each color. So that you don’t waste your school glue, cut the recipe in half. Additionally, this allows you to make more colors!
  • Use Permanent Marker for Details: If you prefer, you can draw the faces or stems with a black permanent marker after the stickers are dry for more precise details. Do this while they are still on the plastic sheet protectors so that permanent marker doesn’t accidently get on your window.
  • Get the Kids Involved: This is a great craft for kids! They can help mix the colors and paint the pumpkin shapes, making it a fun Halloween activity for the whole family.
